At this special event, Professor Gunderson will discuss how human-driven environmental change has become increasingly complex and unpredictable due to interactions across ecological and social scales. He will introduce panarchy theory as a framework for understanding and managing these social-ecological systems under uncertainty. The talk will explore how adaptive, flexible management approaches can help balance multiple environmental and social goals, navigate tradeoffs among stakeholder priorities, and improve decision-making in complex and changing systems.
