Featured guests: Cultures from Below: Representation and Resistance in the Margins and Graduate Student Conference. The Department of Spanish and Portuguese welcomes attendees to the inaugural Emory Graduate Conference in Hispanic and Lusophone Studies, which will be held on March 19th. This one-day in-person conference explores aesthetics, approaches and pedagogies from below as a framework for rethinking power, culture, and resistance in Latin America and related spaces. We are interested in how cultural and political expressions from below—rooted in everyday life, collective memory, and exclusion—challenge dominant and canonical narratives, whether talking about the past, the present, or the future.
