Birding Focus:
Legacy Park boasts a wide range of habitats, from open spaces with resident Red-headed Woodpeckers to native woodlands planted by Trees Atlanta, to a pond that flows into swampy wetlands and sparrow fields. Our goal is to see at least 30 different bird species no matter the time of year—or to beat our record of 53.
The 2 mile trail is hard-packed dirt, mostly unpaved, with some gravel. Wear shoes that can get a little muddy if there's been a recent rain.
Please meet in front of
Wild Nest Rehab
.
Directions and Parking:
Take the entrance on Columbia Drive closest to Katie Kerr and take the second right into a small parking lot. Parking is free.
Restrooms:
A porta potty is available on site.
Legacy Decatur is the 501(c)(3) that manages Legacy Park, Decatur's largest greenspace at 77 acres. Our mission is to grow programs, partnerships, and resources that create and support a positive legacy for Decatur.
