Three screenwriters, from LA, NY and ATL, with backgrounds in adaptation, feature development, animation, comedy and kids shows discuss how they got their start, how they learned to craft a screenplay, where they find their ideas, how their process works, and how they get their projects out of development and into production. Panelists: Julie Prescott, Ben Snyder, and Caroline Slaughter Julia Prescott is an Annie-nominated writer/director whose work has criss-crossed between animation and live-action comedy for over a decade. Her episode of The Simpsons , “Treehouse of Horror XXXI,” was named by Variety as one of the “Top 30 Episodes” of the show’s historic run. In 2024, she was selected as a fellow in the inaugural cohort of Rideback RISE, an accelerator for mid-career creatives founded by producer Dan Lin (Chairman of Netflix Films). She has taught screenwriting at both Chapman University and the New York Film Academy. Her writing workshop "Trash Draft", in which writers complete a full 30-page script in a week, has been running since 2015. Caroline Slaughter is an award-winning filmmaker with nearly two decades of experience as a podcaster, writer, director, and voiceover artist. Her recent projects include Tom Slick: Mystery Hunter , which is being adapted into a scripted series she is co-writing with Jeb Stuart, and Astray , which debuted among the top 15 podcasts nationally and is now being developed for both documentary and scripted television. She also wrote and directed the award-winning short film LAMB and has created commercial work for brands including S.Pellegrino, Under Armour, and Meyer Natural Foods, while lending her voice to international campaigns for Holiday Inn, Subway, IBM, Ford, and Facebook.
