W.E.B. Du Bois Revisited: Reimagining Du Bois’ Exhibit of American Negroes Artist Talk & Opening Reception
W.E.B. Du Bois Revisited: Reimagining Du Bois’ Exhibit of American NegroesThis special pop-up exhibition and Salon experience at ADAMA revisits the groundbreaking work of W.E.B. Du Bois, reinterpreting his 1900 Paris Exposition through a contemporary lens of data visualization and photography. Originally designed to challenge dominant narratives and present a truthful, data-driven portrait of Black life in America, Du Bois’ work remains a powerful foundation for understanding how history is documented—and who gets to tell it.Through the work of Natrice Miller, this exhibition bridges past and present, exploring themes of cultural memory, visual storytelling, and the reexamination of overlooked narratives within the Black experience. Miller’s practice moves between journalism and fine art, offering a layered and intimate approach to how history is both preserved and reimagined. In conjunction with the exhibition, ADAMA will host a live Salon conversation featuring from 7-8pm during the openingModerator:Karcheik Sims-AlvaradoPanelists:Mirtha Donastorg and Natrice MillerTogether, they will engage in a dynamic discussion at the intersection of history, journalism, art, and data—examining how historical narratives are constructed, challenged, and reinterpreted in contemporary society. This program invites audiences to not only reflect on the legacy of Du Bois’ work, but to consider how modern creative practices continue to shape our collective understanding of identity, progress, and representation.
