In this recital/lecture, violinist and ethnomusicologist Heidi Aklaseaq Senungetuk (Kingikmiut Inupiaq), assistant teaching professor in the Department of Music, will present two works that highlight contemporary Indigenous creativity through music. The first, Qutaaŋuaqtuit: Dripping Music , created for the art exhibition Soundings: An Exhibition in Five Parts , examines musical score interpretation, Indigenous language, and performance as an act of sovereignty. Senungetuk will also lead a performance of selections from the series For Zitkála-Šá by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Raven Chacon (Navajo Nation), including a rendition of "For Heidi Senungetuk." This program is free and open to the public. Registration is required.
