The life and work of storyteller, puppeteer, and puppet maker Akbar Imhotep
This special exhibit was put together by Ra Malika Imhotep around the “Black History Hand Puppets” constructed by her father and legendary Wren’s Nest storyteller Akbar Imhotep between 1994-1996. Its title comes from Imhotep’s poetic description of the transition between life to the afterlife : “crossing the crystal river.” As depicted in the quilt reproduced here, made by Imhotep in the year prior to his own crossing,
