Note: This course is open to students who have previously completed the Introduction to Blacksmithing class. Using traditional hand hammered blacksmithing techniques over a coal burning forge, students will forge a basic set of tools for the forge. Initial projects include a fire rake, slot punch, hammer eye drive, and blacksmith’s cross peen hammer. Additional projects will be offered as time permits. Returning students may work on project options including: tongs, chisels, punches, drifts, hammers, hardy tools, spring fullers, flux spon, blacksmith’s knife, nail headers, and fireplace tools. Materials will be discussed in the first class; fuel for the student’s forge as well as the mild and tool steel for planned projects are provided by the studio. Steel for repeat or custom projects...
